Summer Color
by Blackthumb Bob

Summer. Color in the garden approaches it's highest point as flowers and shrubs bloom. A stroll through the garden with the camera resulted in these colorful images.

The pictures fairly well speak for themselves, but a few comments have been added anyway.

Daylilly Month
One of my favorite periods of the summer is what I call "Daylilly Month." It is that period of the summer where the daylillies are at their best. With numerous varieties of daylillies, a long period of blooming can be managed.

However, it seems that there is one week when they are at their best.

Above, a mass planting of a double blooming orange variety highlights the edge of a wooded area.

To the right, varieties of pink, orange, and bright yellow bloom together.

A Couple Ideas for Sunny Spaces
Crepe Myrtles may be the cliche of sunny plantings, but they indeed add a nice touch of color. The Japanesse Privet contrasts nicely with its varigated leaves.
A very informal planting of Black-eyed Susans, Shasta Daisies, and Purple Cone flowers fills a corner.
Something for the Shady Side of the House

One of the hardest workers in the garden!
