Bald Eagle

Bird ID:  A-Bird 28

Blackthumb Bob says:

While on a trip to Southern IL, my parents wanted to show the grandsons waterfowl on Crab Orchard Lake, near their home. As this bird flew over, they pointed it out as a Bald Eagle. We saw this one and a few others, but all alluded my attempts to capture a worthy image. This photo, taken January, 2000, barely suggests the white tail. Otherwise the image does not show much.
At another stop, same day, same lake, I shot video of another Bald Eagle. At full 20X optical zoom, it filled only a small percent of the view finder.

This group of images captured from the video camera show a large dark colored bird with a light colored head. From these pictures, along with my dad's assurance, I am willing to make the ID of Bald Eagle.

Herring Gull

Bird ID:  A-Bird 29

Blackthumb Bob says:

On the same trip as the Bald Eagle photos, these photos were taken of the much less camera shy Herring gull.
